President Karzai Meets with EU's Special Representative for Afghanistan
Press Release Date of Release: 05 June 2006 Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met with H.E. Francis Vendrell, the European Union's Special Representative for Afghanistan at the Gulkhana palace this afternoon. During this meeting, the President emphasized the effective fight against terrorism, the reconstruction of Afghanistan , the strengthening of national institutions and the training and equipping of the National Army and Police. The President emphasized the significance of the Afghan people's vision of current affairs and said “The international community's assistance to the reconstruction of Afghanistan and to the fight against terrorism should be rendered with greater knowledge and understanding of the situation so that it will reflect the wishes of the people of Afghanistan and achieve concrete results.” Francis Vendrell also emphasized the significance of bilateral relations and reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to the people of Afghanistan.
