On November 30, President Hamid Karzai received the governors of New York, New Jersey, Oregon and Utah states of the United States of America in the Presidential Palace.
The security situation in Afghanistan and the region, the fight against narcotics, and the continuation of US assistance to the reconstruction of Afghanistan were discussed in detail.
The Governors assured President Hamid Karzai of the continuation of US assistance to Afghanistan and stated that the United States of America will continue assisting Afghanistan until it is able to stand on its own feet.
President Hamid Karzai thanked the US Governors for the assistance of the people of the United States of America to the people of Afghanistan and said, “Afghanistan has made significant achievements in the past five years, and none of this would have been possible without the strong will of the Afghan people and the sustained commitment of the international community, especially that of the United States of America."
President Hamid Karzai also stressed the need for further US assistance in all spheres including education, the strengthening of the Afghan national army and police, the generation of electricity, and the construction of irrigation channels.
