President Karzai meets British Foreign Secretary
 
  On Wednesday July 25, President Hamid Karzai met in Gulkhana Palace with the visiting British foreign secretary, David Miliband.

 Bilateral relations, the situation in Afghanistan and the region, the fight against terror as well as Britain’s involvement in reconstruction, security and anti-drug efforts in Afghanistan were the issues discussed between the two sides.

 Mr. Miliband conveyed Britain’s Queen Condolences on the death of Father of the Nation to the President, people and family of the King.

 British foreign secretary reaffirmed his country’s continued commitment to Afghanistan and said, it was his wish to make Afghanistan his first country to visit outside Europe since he took office about three weeks ago.

 Welcoming the upcoming Afghanistan-Pakistan Peace Jirga, Mr. Miliband called such gathering by influential figures by both the countries very important in ensuring security.

 The possibility of a meeting soon between President Karzai and British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown also came up in the meeting.

 The President expressed gratitude for the Secretary’s participation in the funeral ceremony of King Mohammad Zahir Shah, Father of the Nation.
