President Hamid Karzai meeting members of the British delegationOn November 27, President Hamid Karzai received a delegation from the British House of Commons at the Presidential Palace.

The security situation in Afghanistan and the region, Britain’s assistance to Afghanistan, and the fight against narcotics and corruption were discussed in detail.

President Hamid Karzai emphasized the need for further regional cooperation in the fight against terrorism and said “To ensure an effective fight against terrorism, we must focus our attention on its sources and root causes.”

President Hamid Karzai thanked members of the delegation for the assistance of the people of Britain to the people of Afghanistan and said “We must concentrate our efforts on implementing development projects, and the Government of Afghanistan will do its utmost to reduce poppy cultivation over the next year.

President Hamid Karzai reiterated Afghanistan’s commitment to the fight against corruption and said “Afghanistan’s Attorney General, with my full support, has done a very good job in fighting corruption and his efforts will continue to ensure a corrupt-free Government.

Members of the delegation emphasized the continuation of Britain’s assistance to Afghanistan and said “We visited the Afghan Parliament and were delighted by the presence of a large number of women in the parliament. Afghanistan is moving in the right direction, and the British people will continue assisting its people until they are able stand on their own feet.”
