On November 26, President Hamid Karzai received members of the Inquiry Commission on Tagab incident at the Presidential Palace.
The commission was assigned to investigate the loss of lives and damages inflicted during a joint military operation by the Afghan national police and army and NATO-ISAF in Tagab district of Kapisa province.
The commission members returned to Kabul today and presented their report to the President.
On October 20, the commission members met Ulema, community elders and Jihadi figures from Tagab district, and visited the areas where the operation had been conducted. The commission’s findings are:
- Military operation was essential and people were happy with its results.
- Security has been restored to Tagab district and its people are now feeling safe.
- 14 innocent civilians were killed and another 13 sustained superficial injuries during the operation.
- The commission advises: the relevant authorities should be instructed to reform the Tagab administration as soon as possible.
- People from Tagab and Nejrab districts should be equally represented in the Tagab administration.
- Significant reconstruction work has taken place in the district and people are happy with Government programmes.
- The commission members agreed that a strong council be set up to ensure security in Tagab district, and to carry out negotiations with the disgruntled individuals.
President Hamid Karzai instructed the relevant authorities to provide the affected families with assistance.
The Ulema and community elders from Tagab district will visit Kabul next week to hold further talks with President Hamid Karzai.
A commission made up of representatives of the Office Administrative Affairs and the Ministry of Interior will visit Tagab district to reform the Tagab administration.
