President Karzai Meets Senator Bill Frist, Representative Dennis Hastert at Congress 

On September 26, President Karzai met with Republicans Bill Frist, the Senate Majority Leader, and Dennis Hastert, Speaker of the House of Representatives, as well as other members of Congress, during separate sessions in Washington DC.

The fight against terrorism and narcotics, Afghanistan’s economic development, and US financial assistance to Afghanistan were among the topics discussed in both meetings.

Senators and representatives in attendance reiterated their commitment to helping Afghanistan achieve peace and prosperity.

President Karzai, on behalf of the Afghan people, thanked the members of Congress for their assistance to Afghanistan’s reconstruction and security, and emphasized the need to expand bilateral relations between the two countries.

Referring to Afghanistan’s own legislature, President Karzai said, “Parliament is a place for Afghans where their wishes for peace and prosperity are discussed and achieved.”
