President Karzai Receives Honorary Degree from Georgetown University

 On September 25, President Karzai received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in an official ceremony at Gaston Hall, Georgetown University.
During the ceremony, John J. DeGioia, President of Georgetown University, described Afghanistan’s achievements in the areas of education, health, and democracy in the past five years as remarkable, and expressed his commitment to providing technical assistance and training to Afghanistan. President Karzai thanked Georgetown University and encouraged its students to serve the entire world as future leaders of the United States. The ceremony was attended by 700 students and teachers from the university. The President is due to meet with President George W. Bush, and other senior US officials, later in the day before heading to Florida for a meeting with military officials at MacDill Airforce Base. |
