On September 25, President Karzai met with high-level U.S. business executives from the Businesses Building Bridges (BBB) initiative in Washington DC.

Launched on January 30, 2006 by President Karzai and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the BBB initiative highlights the importance of the private sector in Afghanistan’s reconstruction. BBB leaders are developing a set of recommendations for the Afghan government on ways to aid and promote the private sector.

President Karzai emphasized the need to find suitable international markets for Afghanistan’s agricultural products, and the need for more investment in power generation and irrigation systems.
