President Karzai Meets British Defense Secretary

President Hamid Karzai met on Sunday with the visiting British Defense Secretary, Des Browne. Employment and economic activities for people in Helmand was among issues of great importance that both sides exchanged views on.

President Karzai and Secretary Browne stressed on the importance of close cooperation between the local government, the Afghan National Army and the British military in improving lives in Helmand. It was decided in the meeting that representatives from both sides start to work on plans to establish a support agency to encourage and promote industry, business and investment in Helmand and other provinces in the south.

The President thanked Britain for its continued military and economic contribution for the people of Afghanistan.
