President Hamid Karzai Tuesday chaired a follow-up consultative meeting that focused on the forthcoming elections in Afghanistan.
The next elections for president, national assembly, provincial councils and district councils in Afghanistan are scheduled for late 2009.
The participants that included both the Vice-presidents, former President Burhanuddin Rabani, House Speaker Younus Qanoni, Chief Justice Abdul Salam Azimi, Pir Gelani, Ayatullah Mohsini, Marshall Fahim Khan, Mohammad Mohaqeq, Deputy Senate Speaker Hamid Gelani, Senior Minister Amin Arsala, Defense Minister Ab. Rahim Wardak, Haj Minister Shahrani, Justice Minister Danish, Attorney General Jabar Sabet, heads of Civil Services Commission and Office of the Administration Affairs and officials from the Elections Commission exchanged views and followed up on the discussions on different aspects of the next elections and whether the elections be held jointly or separately.
It was collectively agreed by officials from the three branches of the state that a committee be established under Justice Minister and membered by Chief Justice and Head of Elections Commission to work out the technical and legal details of the elections and prepare a final layout in the next meeting, based on which a final decision will be made.
