President Hamid Karzai met on Monday in the Presidential Palace a number of Kabul’s poor and destitute street children. The street children in Kabul are cared for and registered under an entity called, Children Support Union.
A child gifted to the President her painting that featured a child hoping to learn and serve its society. The requests children made to the President included issuing street children with national ID cards, districts be cleaned off garbage, more education opportunity by the Ministry of Education and exemption of city bus fare for children under 12.
The Children Support Union currently facilitates access to education, health and vocational training for some 2500 children. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is providing support in education, health and vocational trainings for over 460,000 children across Afghanistan.
The President instructed the relevant authorities to take all possible measures to help and support children. In the meeting, the President appreciated the handwork of the children.
The meeting concluded with the presents distributed by the President to the children.
