On July 18, President Hamid Karzai awarded the state medal of Ghazi Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan to General Peter Pace, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In a special ceremony, the state medal was awarded to General Pace for his efforts in supporting and equipping Afghan National Army, fighting terrorism and effective deployment of troops to help ensure security in Afghanistan.

After the meeting, the both sides discussed issues concerning security in Afghanistan and the region, fighting terrorism, equipping and enhancing capacities of the Afghan National Army.
