President Hamid Karzai met Wednesday noon with Mrs. Ingibjorg Solrun Gisladottir, Iceland's Foreign Minister to talk about different issues of mutual interest and strengthening bilateral relations.
Ms. Gisladottir applauded the efforts for peace and reconstruction underway in Afghanistan. She affirmed her country’s commitment and support to the Afghan nation.
She will check on 13 Icelandic civilians attached to NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) stationed in the northern city of Maimana.
President Karzai termed the assistance by the international community as very important in helping Afghanistan move forward and welcomed stronger ties and cooperation with Iceland.
Iceland does not have an army, but supplies civilian staff to several international missions.
