On November 19, President Hamid Karzai received the President of the Asian Development Bank in New Delhi.
The ADB President explained the bank’s role in expanding regional economic cooperation, saying, “The ADB is actively involved in the transit, energy, and agricultural sectors in Afghanistan and hopes to expand its infrastructural projects in the country as well.”
He informed President Hamid Karzai about the ADB’s windmill and irrigation projects in Afghanistan as well as the ring road project which will connect all of Afghanistan’s major cities to one another. The ADB has pledged $100 million to expedite construction on the ring road.
Thanking the leadership of the ADB for its assistance to Afghanistan’s reconstruction, President Hamid Karzai said, “Regional economic cooperation is beneficial for the entire region and Afghanistan is happy to play an important role in this cooperation.”
