On November 17, President Karzai met with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, President of India, at the Presidential Office in New Delhi.
The Second Regional Economic Cooperation Conference (RECC), Afghanistan’s reconstruction efforts, and India’s assistance to Afghanistan were among the items discussed.
President Kalam called RECC beneficial for the expansion of economic relations between Afghanistan and regional countries and expressed hope that it will attract foreign investment to Afghanistan.
Citing the importance of education to Afghanistan’s future, President Kalam said, “India is ready to provide scholarships for Afghan students in order to raise their level of knowledge.”
President Karzai thanked the Indian government and people for their assistance to Afghanistan and for organizing the conference.
He agreed with President Kalam that RECC will lead to greater economic prosperity and security for countries in the region by expanding their ties and cooperation with one another.
