President Karzai Meets India’s Minister of Foreign Affairs
 
President Karzai and Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Pranab MukherjeeOn November 17, President Karzai met with Pranab Mukherjee, India’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in New Delhi.

Minister Mukherjee assured President Karzai of India’s continued support in Afghanistan and expressed his hope that the Second Regional Economic Cooperation Conference (RECC) will have positive results for Afghanistan and the region as a whole.

He added that India has provided more than $650 million for Afghanistan’s reconstruction, focusing mainly on infrastructural projects such as highways, power dams, etc.

President Karzai appreciated the significance of RECC, saying, “The Second Regional Economic Cooperation Conference will expand cooperation among regional countries, particularly in the fields of agriculture, energy, and trade.  Afghanistan, as a connecting bridge among the countries, will benefit substantially from such cooperation.”

Also present at the meeting was Dr. Rangeen Dadfar Spanta, Afghanistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
