On December 16, President Hamid Karzai received a delegation of US senators, led by John McCain, at the Gul Khana Palace.
The security situation in Afghanistan and the region, Afghanistan’s achievements and the challenges ahead, and the continuation of US assistance to the reconstruction and security of Afghanistan were discussed in detail.
Senator John McCain said “Afghanistan will overcome its difficulties with the assistance of the international community. The US senate strongly supports your determined efforts to serve the Afghan nation.”
The President spoke about Afghanistan’s national strategy in the fight against narcotics and terrorist activities in the region, and stressed the need for eliminating the roots and sources of terrorism.
President Hamid Karzai thanked US senators for the assistance of the people of the Untied States of America to the people of Afghanistan and said, “The United States of America is a good friend of the Afghan people. US senators are well aware of the situation in Afghanistan and have always lobbied to get more attention to the reconstruction and security of Afghanistan.”
