On December 16, President Karzai inaugurated the Command and Control Center of the National Police, which was funded and equipped by the US in the Ministry of Interior.
Welcoming the participants, the Chief Operations of the Ministry of Interior called the inauguration of the center as an important step in the development of the Ministry. He stated that the center is equipped with hi-tech facilities including video telecom, mobile phones, security cameras, computers, screens as well as rooms for tactical planning and operations. The center is staffed with central police officers and liaison officers for the five “police zones”.
The Minister of Interior, Zarar Ahmad Muqbel thanked the US for funding construction of the Center and said, “The Police Command & Control Center was created to improve operations and management of our forces and is crucial to our effective cooperation and coordination among different security entities including the National Army, Intelligence and ISAF.”
Minister Muqbel also stated that this center with the assistance of the Coalition Forces clearly indicates the commitment of our international partners to the peace and stability in Afghanistan.
President Karzai in his opening speech said, Afghanistan has suffered seriously in the past three decades during which its national institutions such as Ministries of Interior and Defense were battered in different forms.
The President stated that he is certain that the new Command and Control Center equipped with modern facilities can bring better service to the people of Afghanistan.
