On September 14 in a ceremony to inaugurate the newly-constructed hospital of the NDS, National Department of Security, President Hamid Karzai called the hospital another step forward in improving people’s life. The hospital equipped with modern facilities with skilled medical staff is another great example in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
President Karzai added, “I am happy to see Afghanistan gradually reaching the level to provide its citizens with required medical treatment. We are proud to inaugurate today a hospital that is able to serve the NDS staff, high level government officials and the people.”
Head of the NDS, Amrullah Saleh speaking on the occasion said, with this hospital we will be able to reduce the number of foreign medical visits by our security staff and thus decrease our security vulnerability against other intelligence services.
Mr. Saleh added that work for building or rehabilitating the installations of the NDS is in progress throughout the country.
According to hospital director, Dr. Qasim Eqbal, the work for this hospital has been completed within one year with an overall cost of $ 9 million funded by the US government. Over $ 6 million has been spent for building the hospital and nearly $ 3 million for purchasing equipments.
The NDS hospital has 62 beds and can handle in emergency situations up to 200 patients. The hospital has various sections for different medical services.
At the end of the ceremony, the President while accompanied by NDS officials, some ministers and parliament members took a tour of the newly-built hospital.
