Hungary Pledges to Equip and Train the ANA 
 
President Karzai Receives Hungary's Minister of DefenseOn September 14, President Karzai received Imre Szekeres, Hungary’s Minister of Defense, at the Gulkhana Palace in Kabul.

The Minister spoke about his visit to Pul-e-Khomri, where Hungarian troops will takeover leadership of the PRT from the Dutch contingent.  As a result, Hungary can take a more active role in Baghlan Province’s reconstruction and security. 

“Hungary will continue to help Afghanistan in ensuring peace and reconstruction and remains committed to helping Afghans in their efforts for a better future,” the Minister said.  He stated that Hungary’s continuing assistance in equipping the Afghan National Army will help the country towards this goal.   

President Karzai thanked the Minister for Hungary’s assistance to Afghanistan, and stressed further cooperation from the international community to equip and professionalize the ANA in order to meet the country’s security demands.  The President noted that Hungary’s role in providing training opportunities for Afghan Air Force officers and pilots within Hungary is greatly appreciated.

The meeting was also attended by General Abdul Rahim Wardak, Afghanistan’s Minister of Defense.
