In a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Nov. 13 in the Palace in Kabul, President Karzai discussed various issues of mutual interest.
Minister Jiechi reaffirmed his country’s support of Afghan government policies in ensuring peace and security and said China would stay committed to making all necessary efforts to strengthen relationship between the two countries on the basis of the Good Neighborly Relations Agreement signed last year by the presidents of the two nations.
President Karzai thanked China for its assistance to Afghanistan and stated that the two countries are good neighbors with common interests in different areas.
The President appreciated the Chinese investment in Afghanistan and termed it in the best interest of the two neighbors and of the entire region.
Both President Karzai and Minister Jiechi underscored the need for further promoting cultural exchange.
China in both Tokyo and London Conferences made pledges of a total amount of $ 160 million dollars for the reconstruction in Afghanistan.
Minister Yang Jiechi arrived in Kabul on Tuesday for an official visit at an invitation by Foreign Minister Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta to sign agreements of mutual economic and technical cooperation.
