President Karzai Receives Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister 
 
President Karzai and Iran's Deputy Minister of Foreign AffairsPresident Karzai received Dr. Mehdi Safari, Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia, the Pacific, and the Commonwealth of Independent States, at the Presidential Palace.

Dr. Mehdi conveyed the best wishes of Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Supreme Leader, and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to President Karzai, saying, “The Government of Iran will continue its assistance to the reconstruction of Afghanistan and backs the Afghan Government’s programs.”

The construction of Khuwaja Abdullah-e-Ansar, the hastening of construction on a diesel powered generation station for Kabul, the construction of the Khuwaf-Herat railway, the asphalting of a highway linking Iran to China and Central Asia through Afghanistan, and other issues of mutual interest were discussed.

Dr. Mehdi announced, “The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran has already scheduled an official visit to Kabul in the near future.”
