President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday September 11 chaired the second meeting in the Palace on solutions for generating more electricity for the coming winter for Kabul.
In the first meeting last week, the President discussed with Ministers of Energy and Finance and Economic Advisors ways out to the current lack of electricity for Kabul residents during winter.
Today’s meeting was attended by Energy and Water Minister Esmayl Khan, Finance Minister, Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi, Presidential Economic Advisor Eshaq Naderi, Deputy Finance Minister Wahidullah Shahrani, Hasan Zada from Siemens Company and some other officials of the relevant authorities. Finance Minister Ahadi said, with new power generators to be provided by the USAID, some of the shortage of electricity for the coming winter will be filled.
Minister Ahadi stated that renovation and building the Kabul Power Distribution Network requires about $ 100 million and will be funded by the Finance Ministry from domestic incomes. The Network will have been renewed and ready by next winter when the new electricity being imported from the central Asian countries is here.
At the meeting, the Ministry of Energy was tasked to prepare a detailed draft on renewing the Network and submit it to the Finance Ministry for funding.
