On December 10, President Karzai received Kevin Lynch, Privy Council Clerk for Canadian government, at the presidential palace.
Canada’s continued support to Afghanistan, security in Afghanistan and the region, and the coming up Peace Jirgas were the issues discussed.
The President thanked people and government of Canada for their support to the people of Afghanistan during the past five years and applauded Canadian sons and daughters for their devotion and efforts towards security in Afghanistan and said, “Afghans will never forget the high price that Canadian soldiers are paying with their blood for ensuring security in Afghanistan.”
The President emphasized the need to target the root cause and sources of financial, ideological, technical and training support of terrorism, so that an effective fight against terrorism and a life in a terror free world could be ensured.
Pleased with his trip to Afghanistan and meeting with President Karzai, Mr. Lynch assured the President of Canada’s full and long-term commitment to assist Afghanistan in the area of security and development, as long as it is needed.
Also in attendance were Canada’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Afghanistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the President’s National Security Advisor and Head of Presidential Administrative Affairs.
