On November 10, President Karzai met with community elders and representatives of the Barakzai and Noorzai tribes from Shindand District, Herat Province.
An elder, on behalf of others, thanked members of the inquiry commission sent to the area for settling their dispute and said, “The people and community elders of Herat decided to contain the incident in Shindand District and to protect the unity between the Noorzai and Barakzai tribes.”
President Karzai praised the efforts of community elders to settle the dispute peacefully, “The meetings that I held with you yesterday and today assured me that your hearts are throbbing for peace and brotherhood. Today, you hugged each other in the mosque after Friday prayer, showing a sense of brotherhood. I hope no one in the future will resort to violence in your province and that your brotherhood stays for ever.”
The President instructed a joint commission of all the tribes in the province of Herat to settle the details of the dispute.
