On Thursday, President Karzai met with Romanian President Traian Basescu at the Presidential Palace in Kabul. President Basescu reaffirmed his country’s continued commitment to Afghanistan.
In a joint press conference, the Romanian president said his country will provide military training to the ANA and assist with equipment. President Basescu also extended an invitation for President Karzai to visit Romania.
The President was on a one day trip to Afghanistan visiting Romanian troops in Kandahar before heading to Kabul. Romania currently has 648 troops in Kandahar, Zabul, and Kabul provinces as part of the NATO-led coalition.
President Karzai thanked President Basescu and the people of Romania for their support in the reconstruction of Afghanistan and praised the friendly relations between the two countries.
