President Karzai Meets Participants of Afghanistan’s Third Festival on Contemporary Literature

 
President Karzai Meets Afghan Poets and WritersOn November 8, President Karzai met with participants of Afghanistan’s third festival on contemporary literature at the Presidential Palace.

Zarin Anzour, one of the participants, called the festival positive and thanked Afghanistan’s Pen Association and Goetta Institute for organizing it, saying, “The third festival on Afghanistan’s contemporary literature provided a unique opportunity for Afghan poets and writers from all provinces of Afghanistan to gather under one ceiling and exchange views.”

President Karzai appreciated their efforts in keeping Afghan literature alive and said, “Poems and novels throughout our ancient history have symbolized our national identity.”

“Novels should depict our past and present history.  These stories help future generations understand where they came from.  These stories connect our present with our past.”

The President praised efforts by the Pen Association and Goetta Institute for holding such festivals, saying, “Literature plays a significant role in enhancing people’s mentality, and the Government of Afghanistan will spare no efforts in supporting such events.”
