President Karzai Meets French Defense Minister
 
17sonbela86_frenchDMandKarzai_L.jpgOn September 08, President Hamid Karzai met in the Presidential Palace with French Defense Minister, Herve Morin. Issues emphasized included further military, economic and cultural cooperation.

Minister Morin conveyed message and regards of President Nicolas Sarkozy to President Karzai that said no political change can affect his country’s continued commitment in supporting Afghanistan.

Defense Minister Mori assured the President of his country’s continued involvement in training the Afghan National Army and said he was impressed by the performance an Afghan Army unit demonstrated when he visited them this morning in the province of Logar.

President Karzai called the relations between the two countries as “historical” and thanked people and government of France for their help for rebuilding and security in Afghanistan.

President said, “France was one of the first countries to take part in training the Afghan National Army and the achievements we see today is partly the result of hard work by the French military instructors.”

In presence to the meeting were Afghan Defense Minister Gen. Rahim Wardak and Presidential Security Advisor Zalmai Rasool.

France has about 1,000 troops serving in Afghanistan as part of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force.
