On December 6, President Hamid Karzai received General Smith, Senior Commander of NATO forces, at the Presidential Palace.
General Smith briefed President Hamid Karzai on the outcome of NATO Summit in Riga, Latvia’s capital, and assured him of the continuation of NATO’s assistance to the reconstruction and security of Afghanistan.
General Smith stressed the need for strengthening the Afghan national army and police and said, “NATO will continue assisting Afghanistan until it is able to stand on its own feet.”
The President thanked General Smith for the assistance of NATO to Afghanistan, and urged NATO authorities to focus attention on the sources of terrorism outside Afghanistan.
