President Karzai Meets with Delegation from HelmandOn November 06, President Karzai met with community and tribal elders, district chiefs, police chiefs, and teachers from Helmand province at the Presidential Palace.

The security situation in Helmand Province, especially the security situation in the district of Musa Qala, was discussed in detail.

An elder from Musa Qala expressed his deep concern over the security situation in Helmand and said, “The people of Helmand have lost out on the achievements over the past years due to problems which exist in the Government’s administrative and security structures in the province.”

“Security was very good in the province of Helmand before.  Our children could go to school with peace of mind, but now the recently built schools, clinics, roads, and other completed projects have been destroyed by the enemies of Afghanistan.”

A group of women from the province explained Helmand’s security situation and asked the Government to take decisive action to re-open schools, pay teachers their salaries, and administer the necessary changes to Helmand’s administrative and security structures.

“Teachers and students are being threatened by the enemies of Afghanistan, and if the Government does not take action in this regard, the climate for education will deteriorate even further.”

President Karzai promised that the Government will look into their problems and take decisive action to alleviate the situation.
