On November 06, President Karzai received Karel De Gucht, Belgium’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Presidential Palace.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations, regional security, and the fight against corruption and narcotics.
Minister De Gucht expressed support for the Afghan Government’s efforts to fight corruption, saying, “Belgium is committed to continuing its assistance to peace in Afghanistan, economic prosperity, the fight against narcotics and corruption, and to a better future for Afghanistan.”
President Karzai thanked Minister De Gucht for Belgium’s assistance to the consolidation of security and reconstruction in Afghanistan. He emphasized the need for strengthening national institutions, especially equipping and training the national army and police.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Zalmay Rasoul, National Security Advisor.
