President Karzai Accepts Australia's First-Ever Ambassador to AfghanistanOn November 05, President Karzai accepted the credentials of Brett Hackett, Australia’s first-ever resident ambassador to Afghanistan, in a ceremony at the Presidential Palace.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Hameed Sediq, Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Karzai was delighted to welcome the Australian ambassador to Afghanistan and said, “The inauguration of the Australian Embassy in Afghanistan will further strengthen bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Australia.”

Ambassador Hackett called the inauguration of the Australian Embassy in Kabul as a sign of “friendship and cooperation between Afghanistan and Australia that started 160 years ago when a group of Afghans went to Australia and assisted in its development.”

He added, “I will try to further strengthen the friendly relations between Afghanistan and Australia and attract more assistance from the people of Australia to the people of Afghanistan.”
