In a visit on September 01 with Afghan women footballers in the Palace, President Karzai congratulated them on their first time participation in an International Women’s Football Championship held in Islamabad.
Afghan Women Football Team competed in a friendly football match against their host female players in Islamabad. The Afghan team did very well, but lost to their opponent team in just one goal after what has been identified as “misjudgment” by the host referee, who was then suspended for one year as punishment from taking part in the matches.
President Karzai applauded the female football team and instructed Anwar Jegdalak, head of the Afghan Olympics Committee to arrange a special football field for the female players with all essentials.
The President ordered an amount of Afs 10,000 to be paid as monthly incentive for each of the female players until the next championships, to be held in three months.
