On March 02, President Hamid Karzai met Mahmoud Farshidi, Education Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at the Gul Khana Palace.
President Hamid Karzai and Education Minister Farshidi discussed Iran’s continued assistance to Afghanistan, in particular to the education sector.
Minister Farshidi said, “Iran will continue assisting the Afghan people in establishing teacher training centers, developing education curriculum, improving literacy and vocational trainings, developing data collection system, and establishing religious schools under the Afghan Education Ministry.
President Hamid Karzai thanked the people of Iran for the assistance they have provided to the people of Afghanistan in the past five years, especially in assisting our educational and cultural programmes said, “Improving education is one of the top priorities of the Afghan Government and we are happy to see Iran contributing to this sector.”
The issue of private schools for Afghan refugees in Iran was discussed in the meeting.
The meeting was also attended by the Afghan Education Minister Hanif Atmar and Iran's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mr Reza Bahrami
