President General Pervez Musharraf and President Hamid Karzai held comprehensive, cordial and useful talks, together with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on regional and international issues.
President Karzai and President Musharraf agreed that extremism and terrorism are common threats to both Afghanistan and Pakistan, as it is a danger to the region.
They reiterated their commitment to continue supporting moderation, fighting all forms of extremism and terrorism through coordinated action.
Acknowledging the great opportunity that exists for progress and economic development in the region, they pledged to work together to improve and strengthen the climate of trust and cooperation.
With a view to monitoring progress on the above agreed matters and coordinating the confidence-building measures and mechanisms, the Presidents established a "Joint Working Group (JWG)" with the participation of high level representatives of the three countries.
Agreed to deny sanctuary, training and financing to terrorists and to elements involved in subversive and anti-state activities in each other's country and to initiate immediate action on specific intelligence exchanges in this regard.
Agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations on the basis of good-neighborliness, respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
Resolved to work jointly for facilitating orderly repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan. Also, a joint declaration was issued during this visit.
President Hamid Karzai also visited the tomb of Mawlana Jalaulludin Balkhi in Qunia city, offered his prayers and said, “It is a great honour and pleasure to be able to visit the tomb of Mawlana Jalalludin Balkhi.
UNESCO has named the year 2007 as the year of Mawlana-e-Balkh, and this year will be celebrated in France, Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan.
President Hamid Karzai was accompanied on this trip by Dr Rangin Dadfar Spanta, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Zalmai Rasul, National Security Advisor, Amrullah Saleh, Director of NDS, Sharifa Sharif, Advisor to the President on International Affairs, Umer Daudzai, Chief of Staff to the President, and Karim Rahimi, Spokesman to the President.
