Minister Abdul Karim Barahowie was born in Nimroz Province in 1955. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in weapons technology from Afghanistan's Military College in 1977. After the Soviet invasion, he left military service and became a commander for the Mujahideen. In 1992, he became Governor of Nimroz Province, a post he held for three years before taking up arms against the Taliban. In 2002, he was reappointed Governor of Nimroz. He speaks Dari, Pashto, Balochi, and Barahowie.
